The latest news from the North Bucks Road Club, including club news and announcements; club events and results; news relating to the wider cycling community. Club event results are periodically moved to the "Club Events" area, accessible from the menu above.

The upcoming club meeting will be a social meeting at The Inn on the Lake, 7.30pm.
The Club Committee have been making plans for changes, including using social messaging for communications, and the new club run calendar. Come along and discuss the changes, and what other things we could do as a club! All contributions of ideas most welcome. Let Nathan know if you need to collect club kit.

From the 7th of May we will be implementing a new approach to our Sunday club runs, the principal changes are below.

Firstly we will be moving away from our traditional start point of Harley hall. We will in future have two start points, and alternate between them - a western start point next to the “Nut and Squirrel” at Westcroft, and an eastern start point outside the medical centre in Newport Pagnell. The benefits of these two start points are

  1. It’s time to move away from the Harley Hall as we no longer use that location
  2. By having two start points, members from both sides of MK will find one start convenient, and one less so, so fair to all.
  3. Both start points offer a quick exit from MK, and a wider range of routes and destinations, without the need to ride across MK as a group.
  4. Both sites are public spaces, so should not encounter issues with local objections to us gathering.
  5. Both sites are close to car parks.

Here is the club run calendar, for May to July 2017. Please notify David Carrington or Robert Saunders if you wish to lead a club run. Here is  more information on the new club run arrangements.

Start Points for these runs:

W: Westcroft (outside the Nut and Squirrel)

NP: Newport Pagnell (outside the Medical Centre)

Club Run Calendar May to July 2017

Big news for this week is that James set a new club 25 mile TT record, having completed the Lea Valley '25' on the E2/25 in a blinding 49:52. We left the race HQ before all the results were in, so we don't yet know what place that time earned him.

We hear through the grapevine that is Facebook that Andy completed the Paris-Roubaix sportive and is apparently drinking a 'well-earned green tea'. Hopefully we'll hear more of this exploit on his return.

We have a club meeting on Monday 10th April, from 7.30pm. We're returning to the The Inn on The Lake. This time, Dick has arranged an upstairs room. Nathan will be bringing along the club kit order, which has arrived. This is a social meeting, but it's also an opportunity to discuss club matters with the club committee.

James Richardson was the first NBRC rider to take part in an open time trial in 2017, with a ride in the Banbury Star Hardriders event on Sunday. He sent in this report...

This Sunday past I opened my TT season at the Banbury Star Hardriders event on K4/23. It’s a 23 mile out and back course which starts just to the west of Banbury and heads north west along the A422. Back in February, when I was perusing the CTT website for events to enter, I chose this one because I could ride to the start and also because I looked at the elevation profile and thought to myself, “ah okay, so it’s all pretty flat with a fairly sizeable hill towards the end”. As it happens the course is nowhere near flat and the hill near the end is bloody massive!

Still, I don’t usually have a problem with hills - I tend to manage okay being at the lighter end of the spectrum - so I was very much looking forward to kicking off the season with this event. Unfortunately in the week leading up to race day my enthusiasm was dampened somewhat by a pretty atrocious weather forecast: 6 degrees, 18mph winds and raining pretty much all day. Of course, with it being a hardriders event this was all par for the course.

Twelve NBRC members were in Spain for a few days of good weather riding and training. Not to mention beer, coffee, cakes and so forth. here's a small photo gallery lifted from our Facebook Page.

Waye sent in the list of pre-entered riders and the Rider notes for the first event in the MK Bowl Spring series.

The event is on 4th March - the Rider notes for full details of signing on and race times.
