The latest news from the North Bucks Road Club, including club news and announcements; club events and results; news relating to the wider cycling community. Club event results are periodically moved to the "Club Events" area, accessible from the menu above.

The annual NBRC dinner and prizegiving was held on Friday 13th January, at The Wheatsheaf, Bow Brickhill. It was a pretty convivial evening, and was considerably enlivened by the Club Members' Awards, presented by Neill Boddinton in a greatly amusing, if sometimes ribald style!

Note that in some cases, trophies couldn't be awarded as members hadn't competed in the relevant events, or we don't have eligible members (e.g. Juniors). This year's awards were as follows:

As our members ride for various reasons and because you do not all compete, but still put in some serious effort on two wheels; for 2016 we are introducing some new awards to complement the current array of silverware.

The exclusive shortlist for each award will be announced at the club presentation evening. Then you, our members, will vote for each winner.

2017 membership renewals are now due! Monday's club meeting is a good opportunity to renew your membership and place orders for club kit.

From Nathan:

The club kit order window is now open, all first and second claim members should have received an email from Nathan with an order form attached.  If you haven't received an email, please contact Nathan either via the contact page or via Facebook.

If you are ordering kit, this form needs to be returned via email by Friday 27th January at the latest. We have a club meeting on Monday 9th January, which offers a good opportunity.

21st January, 10am start

Meeting point: Wolverton Rail Station, Stratford Road Wolverton

This event is aimed at those that maybe new to cycling, would like to meet new friends or to find out more about joining a club and the benefits that can bring. We will do a ride of approximately 20 miles with a coffee stop. No one will be left behind and we will ride at the pace to suit all. This is a an opportunity to come and talk to one of the friendliest clubs around. We will be targeting several sportives throuhgout the year to help riders set targets and help them get there along the way with help, advice and company whilst training. Follow this and other NBRC events via our Facebook page.

The next club meeting is again held in the The Wheatsheaf pub in Bow Brickhill. We meet from 7.30pm on Monday 9th January. We will be meeting in the Function Room, as usual. The Wheatsheaf (website; map location) was the venue for the first ever meeting of the North Bucks Road Club, so it seems quite satisfying to return there! Please do make the effort to attend.

As ever, please email any agenda items to Robert or Steph via the Contact Page. I'll add them to this notification as they come in.

The calendar of club TTs for 2017 has been posted - click here, or access it via the Club Events > 2017 Club Time Trials menu item above.

It's a similar calendar to previous years, and includes three Come & Try It events - while all our club event are open to all, these are the three events we'll publicise. We'll be compiling the usual League tables. Be aware that we may make some changes, so keep an eye on this.

Thanks to Dave Carrington for sorting this out.

Saturday April 1st; Friday April 14th (Good Friday); Saturday April 15th; Saturday April 29

BC Masters 4 Week Criterium Series at the MK Bowl, aimed at male and female riders aged 40+

***[10-Jan-17] Note that due to a clash with another event, the racing on April 22nd has been moved a week earlier, to April 15th*** Three separate races (not concurrent) – 40-49; 50-59; 60+

Aproximately 79 minutes each, at 1140, 1300 and 1420.

10 minutes between each race. Given the potential weather issues at this time of the year (and to minimise marshalling requirements) we will use the simple inner "D-shaped" loop, alternating direction each week. Women's racing: we plan for women to race with men in a 10 years older age group. We will consider running it as one Women's Masters Race, run concurrently with the Men's 60+ race, and would welcome thoughts.
