James Richardson was the first NBRC rider to take part in an open time trial in 2017, with a ride in the Banbury Star Hardriders event on Sunday. He sent in this report...

This Sunday past I opened my TT season at the Banbury Star Hardriders event on K4/23. It’s a 23 mile out and back course which starts just to the west of Banbury and heads north west along the A422. Back in February, when I was perusing the CTT website for events to enter, I chose this one because I could ride to the start and also because I looked at the elevation profile and thought to myself, “ah okay, so it’s all pretty flat with a fairly sizeable hill towards the end”. As it happens the course is nowhere near flat and the hill near the end is bloody massive!

Still, I don’t usually have a problem with hills - I tend to manage okay being at the lighter end of the spectrum - so I was very much looking forward to kicking off the season with this event. Unfortunately in the week leading up to race day my enthusiasm was dampened somewhat by a pretty atrocious weather forecast: 6 degrees, 18mph winds and raining pretty much all day. Of course, with it being a hardriders event this was all par for the course.

Twelve NBRC members were in Spain for a few days of good weather riding and training. Not to mention beer, coffee, cakes and so forth. here's a small photo gallery lifted from our Facebook Page.

Waye sent in the list of pre-entered riders and the Rider notes for the first event in the MK Bowl Spring series.

The event is on 4th March - the Rider notes for full details of signing on and race times.

The upcoming Club Meeting on 13th March will be held in a venue new to us: The Inn on The Lake, which has been arranged by Dick Selley. A room is available for us, and apparently bikes can be brought inside for security.

We'll meet from 7.30pm.

1. Arrangements for Norlond ’10’ - David may be late, so we should hold this until he arrives
2. Resumption of Committee Meetings
3. New membership applications
4. AOB
5. Possible slideshow from Dick (depending on technical issues)

Here's a write-up of Sunday's club run...

On a blustery, cloudy but dry February morning and good turn-out of 11 riders chewed the fat at Harley Hall before setting off for pastures new around the Bedfordshire Countryside.  It would have been more but the late running Carringtons, who then tried to meet us further along route, opted instead to race away from us as we approached! The addition of both Jennie and Steph added some much needed glamour to the group and it was great to see Paul and Jamie out with the club. Steve Abraham was also in attendance and getting in some training miles before his annual record attempt.

Neill with his new found knowledge now cemented in after 8 months resident in the area, took on the gauntlet of route leader and promised some quiet country roads, a few hills and a different café stop. Maybe it was the potential for Neill to look a prat and get everyone lost that promoted a few of the infrequent faces to turn out this weekend?

We have an upcoming club meeting on Monday 13th February. We will need to finalise arrangements for upcoming club time trials, which start in March, plus we need to reflect on the likely roadworks which will (if they occur) once again impact on the use of the Astwood circuit.

Please submit any items for discussion to either Steph or Robert (via email at the Contacts page)

Unfortunately, we are without a regular venue since the Wheatsheaf closed last month. This meeting will take place at the Bowl from 7.30pm. We hope to have a new regular meeting venue from the March meeting onwards.

Wayne Thomas has kindly offered to host this meeting. Emails have gone out to members with address details - if you did not receive this, please drop him an email (via this website's contact page).

NBRC Annual Dinner and Prize Presentation January 2017

This year we gathered at The Wheatsheaf pub in Bow Brickhill which was the place where the original meeting took place leading to the formation of the club in 1952.

The annual NBRC dinner and prizegiving was held on Friday 13th January, at The Wheatsheaf, Bow Brickhill. It was a pretty convivial evening, and was considerably enlivened by the Club Members' Awards, presented by Neill Boddinton in a greatly amusing, if sometimes ribald style!

Note that in some cases, trophies couldn't be awarded as members hadn't competed in the relevant events, or we don't have eligible members (e.g. Juniors). This year's awards were as follows:
