The Presidents Occasional Newsletter
(With comments from the Chairman!)
Hi,
Sad to again open with notice of the passing of a club member. Chris Ransley, featured regularly in the club championship lists as a junior in the mid-seventies and won the Shillingford Bowl as club best all-rounder (50m, 100m, and 12 hour) twice, in 1978 and 1986. He had been unwell for a long time.
Changes to the Club Committee
Following the AGM in February, Ian Stokes (who had recently rejoined NBRC) volunteered to take on the role of Time Trial Secretary. Many thanks, Ian!
Open 10 mile TT
Ian Stokes ran the N & DCA series event for us recently on Brogborough supported by a good team of helpers. Of the 66 starters, fastest was Paul Pardoe Peterborough CC 19.36. Our chairman, Rob Saunders, complained that he was jinxed, starting from number one and finishing in 24.42.
Robert’s comment: Firstly, I’d like to thank Ian for all the organisation on the day, and leading up to the day. The event was really well-run. I was off number one as is traditional: I was supposed to step in an marshal if I discovered on eof the marshals was missing. I stopped at the finish to help the time keeper. I got to watch the riders go past, and almost all of them looked far more comfortable and stylish than I did! Rather than being jinxed, I found the bike remarkably uncomfortable and couldn’t hold an aero position. So I had a pretty rubbish ride.
Result of 2026 New Years Day 10
A very cold morning resulted in a win for
Rob Saunders NBRC 25.53
2nd Lindz Barral Stolen Goat RT 27.03
3rd Isaac Barral “ “ “ 27.22
4 Richard Thornton LBRCC 30.30
5 Neil McAndrew NBRC 43.57
6 Jo Parker TMK/LBTC 52.33
Rob Fletcher Equipe Velo DNS (Apols)
Robert’s comment: The first time trial in a few months is always a bit tougher than one might expect. The NYD 10 was on a very cold morning, with a stiff old wind. We were all shaking with cold before and after, so not particularly conducive to racing. At least the roads weren’t icy!
Club Meetings
We meet every second Monday in the month at 8pm, at Aspley Guise Village Hall, when all aspects of cycling are discussed.
Robert’s comment: Most meetings have an agenda if there is club business to be discussed or decisions made. Uusually there’s a good chat about local cycling issues, club rides and so forth. The ‘sample sizes’ of club clothing is usually brought along.
NBRC Evening time trial series
The 2026 series of evening time trials is online at the club website - https://northbucksroadclub.org.uk/index.php/club-events/2026-club-events
This year we’ve moved to handle entries via the CTT online entry system. In order to enter our events, you will need to set up an account at the CTT website if you haven’t already done so. To take advantage of the cheaper entry for NBRC members, you’ll need to link your account to the club at the web site.
There are two main advantages to this change: each entry has third party rider insurance, and the CTT levy from each entry is remitted automatically to CTT (no more end of season frantic activity from the TT secretary).
Everyone is welcome to come along, even if not racing, and indeed any help is most welcome. We try to make these events quite sociable, often with a brief pub visit afterwards.
Club Clothing
The club has moved away from holding a stock of club clothing: we have set up with Nopinz to supply club kit. There’s a website portal at https://nopinz.com/product-category/club-nopinz/north-bucks-road-club/ through which members can order whatever items they need.
The usual lead time for delivery is 3-4 weeks, though I think this varies through the year.
The Nopinz website seems a bit slow on my computer, but it does work!
The current club kit design can be seen at https://nopinz.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/CNP_1060.pdf - we tried to keep it consistent with the prior version from about 10 years ago.
