Rider Safety in Time Trials and Insurance

CTT, the London North District and NBRC take rider safety seriously. Every course is devised to minimise risk to riders, and risk assessment compiled for each course.

Time trials are conducted on public roads, and individual riders should take every care when taking part in time trials. This includes obeying the Highway Code, riding as a responsible road user and being aware of other road users.

The use of protective helmets and both front and rear lights are mandatory.

CTT has third party insurance cover, detailed in the CTT Handbook, pp7-8. This provides indemnity in the event of a claim against the event officials involved in an approved event (event secretaries, timekeepers, pusher off, marshals, sign erectors, observers and all volunteer helpers, including catering provided by the event). Injuries to competitors and officials caused by competitors are included in the policy, but other incidents are not covered.

Cycling Time Trials recommend that all competitors/cyclists should consider purchasing personal third party insurance, either through membership of a national cycling organisation, from a commercial source, or as part of their household insurance.

Riders under the age of 18 must bring along a signed Parental permission form - this needs to be a physically signed form as printed signatures are not accepted. Without this, they will not be permitted to start.
