There will be a partial solar eclipse this evening, which reaches its peak at 7pm! It's not clear quite how dark this will get, but we'll see how things go, possibly delaying the start by 15-20 minutes if necessary. Also, it would be prudent to use good bike lights!

We had a partial eclipse scheduled to reach its peak just as riders were lining up to start! In fact, the eclipse didn't seem to make things too dark to start on schedule so we went ahead on schedule. But it was a little dim, and on the outward leg, things seemed a particularly dim as the route twisted out towards Newport Pagnell with the low sun peeping through the hedgerows.

Stuart Tarry took a convincing win with a ride of just over 26 minutes, leaving the rest of the riders coming in between 27:19 and 27:59, so all grouped in 40 seconds. On veteran standard, Rob Saunders benefited from his advancing years to take the win.

Because of the visibility issues riding into the low sun, we had some discussion about whether we should switch course to Astwood for the next outing on Cranfield (2nd September), and indeed we've made that change. So we'll finish the series with two events at Astwood (26th August and 2nd September).
