Club Run 26/1/25 - back to Zwift
Club runs in late January are always going to be a bit hit and miss, especially when another winter storm is forecast. This one had the Tolkein-esque name of Storm Eowyn, and didn't really hit our area as badly as it did Ireland. Nevertheless, temperatures were forecast to drop and we didn't get too many takers for this run, so it was abandoned in favour of another virtual club run on Zwift.
In fact, those of us (such as Robert and Carol on their tandem) did try a ride on the Saturday, but found ice patches were a bit worrying - so maybe the lack of interest in a real life club run was wise!
The Zwift ride was on the the new 49.4 km Shiza Shakedown route in the Makuri Islands world - Robert, Steph and Tony were there, all using Discord for chatting. And this was a really social ride, with lots of reminiscing. Tony and Robert had both indulged themselves with haggis, neeps and tatties yesterday for Burns Night - Robert even sipped some Lagavulin single malt (a very rare occurrence as he doesn't like whisky much as a rule!). Because it was rubberbanded, no-one really had to force an excessive pace. Having said that, I was counting down the km at the end, as I was feeling a little tired by then. What with the lead in and a bit of coasting at the end, we covered 54.8km in just over two hours.
