Technical Regulations

The UCI equipment regulations will be enforced for all non-Masters categories at the event, including the 3:1 regulation. Please see page 82 of these regulations (pdf).  There will also be a gear restriction of 7.93 metres for juniors.  Full UCI regulations are available from the UCI.

We have a summary of the key points (pdf document) following discussions with the Chief Commissaire, who adds:

"I have managed to get an extract from the UCI regs, and highlighted the most important bits in blue and red. The main diagram to support the highlights is the "fuselage form" showing 3:1 ratio, which applies to all forms, including tri-bars. This may well mean that some riders have non-compliant bars, and will need to add tape and/or taped card either above or below to meet the regs (one of my colleagues hit on this temporary solution at Newport last week!). The manufacturers may not yet have caught up in some cases, despite being told a couple of years ago what was going to happen!
"I did discuss the masters category with a couple of colleagues, and opinions vary, however Jonny Clay's thinking is that we will not be reporting master's results to UCI, so can be a bit more relaxed with equipment as regards 3:1 ratios. Just so long as it's clear to the seniors/U23/juniors that this is a UCI recognised event so all the regs apply to them."
