Hello all,

Astwood growled, looked grey and threatened us with rain but that appeared to do little to dampen your hopes and enthusiasm for another evening of mayhem and fun on this popular course.

Ok ok so we all know who won tonight don’t we. Well done Simon. 22.47 is a fast ride and that being only 15 seconds off his PB for our club events.

Nice one Gilbert.  That’s a well deserved first place in the keenly supported competition on vets standard. Certainly knocked  Saunders off his perch! I bet he will want to do something about that at Stony next Wednesday.

Other improvements were as follows:-

Yvonne Gurney…..30.42 to 30.26

Lindz Barral………26.26 to 24.57

John Buchanan……25.12 to 24.38

Geoff Perry……….24.34 to 24.25

Nick Pitt…………..24.08 to 24.03

Richard Stanton…..30.48 to 27.19

Ian Stokes………...25.18 to 25.16

Club mate, Glenn McMenamin with a first time effort on this course of 25.12 demonstrated that he should visit us more often.

As always we on the line, are only to aware of all the personnel battles going on out there and only applaud your efforts.

Right, now continuing in the theme of leaving the best till last……..

You doubtless noticed that two young ladies paid us a visit tonight, Hannah Barnes (15) & Alice Barnes (12) and what a revelation of talent and courage they where.

Hannah certainly took us by surprise on the finish line when she almost effortlessly tripped across the finish line just 5 seconds behind first man home Andy Lambeth and holding off the might of her minute man John Buchanan by 20 seconds. Strewth…that was something special.

Alice too has a big heart and plenty of courage to match. To finish that event and, still be able to raise a smile after thirty six minutes out there on the Astwood course with that wind blowing you all ways was amazing.

On behalf of the NBRC, may I congratulate you both.

You are both most welcome to take part in any of our club events that you may choose.

We hope to see you again sometime and would only wish you both every success in your cycling activities.

Must thank Mary for timing you off at the start, Simon (Hannah & Alice’s dad?) for stepping in and pushing off and Peter for policing the money box.

See you all again next Wednesday at Stony Stratford (League Round 3)……first rider off at 19.00hrs.

Regards, Tony.F
